The Gnomes

 The Gnomes are a young four-piece from Melbourne’s bayside sprawl, making wiry, high-energy guitar music that draws equally from ‘60s beat, garage and left-of-centre power pop.

Formed around the songs of teenage singer-guitarist Jay Millar - originally a prolific Bandcamp bedroom project - the band quickly took shape on Melbourne’s live circuit, building a following on the back of sharp hooks and unvarnished, sweat-level shows. Their self-titled debut, released in late 2025, pushed them onto the international radar, picking up 4-star reviews in Mojo, Shindig! and Vive Le Rock alongside coverage from Creem and Raven Sings The Blues.

Classic Rock praised their “high-octane, harmony-laden jangle rock nectar…absolutely everything Oasis could have been but for the addition of a single ounce of unguarded joy” while Mojo called it “garage rock magic…the possibilities are endless.”

Rooted in the suburbs but tuned into a global lineage of melodic guitar bands, The Gnomes balance chiming pop instincts with a loose, instinctive edge - equal parts reverence and restless momentum.
